For the safety of its patients, staff and providers, Clinch Valley Medical Center announced today that it is re-implementing certain visitor restrictions in response to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in the community.

“Like many other communities nationwide, our region is experiencing a rise in positive cases of COVID-19, said Peter Mulkey, CEO of Clinch Valley Health. “While we have not yet seen a corresponding rise of hospitalizations, we believe this proactive approach is necessary to do our part in keeping our patients, employees and providers as safe as possible.”

Zero Visitor Restrictions and Guidelines

Effective July 21, visitors are not allowed within Clinch Valley Medical Center unless they meet the following exceptions:  

• This visitor restriction excludes OB patients (1 adult visitor), Pediatrics (1 parent or guardian) and patients at end-of-life.

At this time, limited visitor restrictions are still in effect at Clinch Valley Health’s other facilities including Clinch Valley Physician Practices.

Limited Access Points

• We have limited access to the hospital to only the Main Lobby (‪6:30 am to 5:30 pm) and Emergency Department entrance (‪24/7).

Screening Guidelines

Clinch Valley Health continues to screen all individuals who enter its facilities for symptoms consistent with COVID-19. Individuals who do not pass the evaluation criteria will be denied entry.

“We want to reassure our communities that it is safe to come to the hospital should you or your family need care,” added Mulkey. “COVID-19 cases are currently a small percentage of our total patient volume, and as we serve the residents of Richlands and the surrounding counties, we are continuing to provide the necessary care our communities need.”
