Clinch Valley Health announced that board-certified gynecologic surgeon and obstetrician Richard A. Pierre, MD has joined Clinch Valley Health’s team and will be serving patients at Clinch Valley Physicians Associates.

“We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Pierre to our medical staff,” said Clinch Valley Health CEO Peter Mulkey. “Our highest priority is providing excellent patient care and Dr. Pierre brings extensive experience in women’s healthcare and expertise in advanced laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgical techniques. Dr. Pierre has a proven record of providing skillful and compassionate obstetrics care to his patients.  We are excited for this addition to our OBGYN service line.” 

Dr. Pierre has acquired certifications from the IRCAD Laparoscopic Training Center in France. He brings proficiency in the full spectrum of women's health, including high-risk obstetrics. Dr. Pierre has provided exceptional care to military members, their families, and civilian populations in the United States and abroad. He also gained advanced training in critical combat casualty care while serving as a Battalion Surgeon in Afghanistan. Dr. Pierre's cultural experience and commitment to continuous professional development allow him to deliver the best possible care to diverse patient populations.  

Dr. Pierre went to medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University, INOVA Campus in Fairfax, Virginia and completed a residency at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York. He specializes obstetrics and gynecology, contraception, cervical and breast cancer screenings, menopause management, pregnancy, labor and delivery care, postpartum care, well woman services and minimally invasive surgery.

“I enjoy being an OBGYN because it is a specialty that combines primary care with surgical procedures,” says Dr. Pierre. “I have a clinical interest in minimally-invasive gynecology because it often results in faster recovery times and less pain for patients.
