Fellowship Trained Surgeon Dr. Kevin Jackson now offering cataract surgery at Clinch Valley Medical Center
Clinch Valley Health announced Dr. Kevin Jackson of Woolfson Eye Institute is now performing cataract surgery in Richlands at Clinch Valley Medical Center. Dr. Jackson is currently seeing patients for pre-operative care in nearby Tazewell, Virginia prior to performing surgery at the hospital in Richlands.
Clinch Valley Health CEO Peter Mulkey said, “For many years, patients had to leave the area to have cataract surgery. Obviously, this can pose a challenge to not only the patient, but also to the individual responsible for getting them to and from the appointment. By adding cataracts to our surgical offerings, the community will have better access to this service close to home.”
About 50% of Americans will develop cataracts by age 75 making cataract surgery the most performed procedure in the United States, with the number of procedures projected to increase as life expectancies rise. Cataracts are a clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which results in reduced vision that worsens with time until removal and replacement of the lens is medically indicated.
Kevin Jackson, DO is a board-eligible ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and refractive surgery. He joined Woolfson Eye Institute in July 2023 and offers an array of refractive surgical options to his patients, including laser-assisted cataract surgery, standard and premium lens implants, Implantable Collamer Lenses (ICLs), as well as both LASIK and Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK). Dr. Jackson grew up in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania and graduated with honors from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Prior to medical school, he worked as an ophthalmic technician and scribe for three years in Maryland and Pennsylvania. His medical training was completed in 2019 from Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating with honors.
Dr. Jackson said, “I am very excited to provide these needed services to the people of Richlands and all the surrounding communities. I felt the need to ease the travel burden and come to these patients. My goal is to provide the newest technology and techniques to ensure patients have the best possible outcome. My motto is “Better Vision. Better Life” and the assistance of the excellent surgical team at Clinch Valley Medical Center truly makes that motto a reality.”
