Clinch Valley Health Receives the HEART Score Performance Award

Clinch Valley Health recently received the HEART Score Performance Award – Highest Performing Facility by Group from TeamHealth. This prestigious award was presented at the annual TeamHealth National Medical Leadership Conference Awards Ceremony held in Dallas, Texas.

The award is recognition for the highest performing facility for TeamHealth within the Lifepoint Group for documentation of HEART Scores on patients presenting with potential Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) symptoms. Success at Clinch Valley Medical Center is attributed to ensuring only one HEART Score template was available through Meditech, as well as intentional individual education with clinicians to address any questions and eliminate confusion about HEART Score utilization. Reinforcing that utilization of the HEART Score was a facility expectation and providing HEART Score educational resources were also valuable tactics.

“Clinch Valley Health is committed to improving patient care by providing HEART Score utilization in our emergency room,” said Peter Mulkey, CEO of Clinch Valley Health. “From April 2023 to July 2024, Clinch Valley had an 89% HEART Score utilization record providing exceptional outcomes for our patients.”

With the use of the HEART score tool, patients with chest pain are stratified into low, medium, and high-risk groups. This tool allows emergency department (ED) providers to evaluate patients quickly and reliably with chest pain and react quickly to the appropriate diagnosis and treatment options.

Dr. Christopher Homan, Regional Medical Director for TeamHealth Lifepoint Group, and Heather Owens, Chief Clinical Officer, of TeamHealth Emergency Medicine accepted the award on behalf of Clinch Valley Health.
